Purpose

The role of Trustee for Ypsilanti Township involves listening to the voice of the community to propose and implement policies.

John feels it is important to be on the front end and have a seat at the table to be involved with the process to invoke change.  He wants to be an advocate for the voiceless and the disenfranchised by providing a solution to their problems.

He has a proactive mindset and is looking to work to address financial issues as well as community relations and increase local business growth.

Local Business Growth

We adapted to the new normal brought on by COVID-19 by supporting our local businesses as much as possible. These have been challenging times, but challenges are temporary, and resilient people endure.

As a Trustee, I voted to continue scheduled projects initiated before my incumbency to ensure alignment with the Master Plan. Trusting the process and maintaining our course is crucial for the progress of our township and the well-being of its residents. Our commitment to fiscal responsibility has made this continuity possible.

Community Relations

As part of the Board, I voted to allocate American Rescue Funds from the Federal Government to Barrier Busters, a county-managed department that provides vital assistance for rental and utility payments, car repairs, water bills, and more. These funds are crucial in helping those who need support as many continue to face economic challenges.

I am proud to be a member of Second Baptist Church, where I serve as a Deacon under Pastor George Waddles Jr., who emphasizes the values of Connection, Commitment, and Community. Through the church's men's ministry and Deacon's ministry, I have contributed to community projects such as the Delonis Center Rotating Shelter and various acts of service. Additionally, my involvement with my fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, has been rewarding through projects like the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Thanksgiving Basket Donation in Inkster.

Community engagement also includes participation in the Walk for Peace.

As a fraternity member, I coordinated the Washtenaw Sheriff Candidate Forum in November 2023, providing voters with the opportunity to meet candidates and make informed decisions based on their responses to selected questions.

Financial Stewardship

Maintaining financial stewardship is a marathon, not a sprint. We must trust the process and adhere to the plan to ensure long-term stability. Our residents have entrusted us with this responsibility through their votes, and I am committed to advocating for continued fiscal responsibility.

I am proud to have contributed to the successful establishment of Aldi, which will create jobs and generate revenue for the township.
